Service line co-management models: the next wave of Clinical Integrations

In an earlier post, we discussed Clinical Integrations or CI. CI has become core into our healthcare vocabulary. Service line co-management models will become ever important in discussions of CIs.
Service line co-management models allow physician groups to manage hospital service lines while earning compensation. It’s particularly attractive for those undergoing M&As, because it tasks physician groups with implementing quality measures that are aligned with quality metrics for hospitals. In fact, a recent forecast by PwC showed that nearly 24% of health systems are involved in Service line co-management models.
Service line co-management models can be assembled in two flavors: a direct contract model (here the physician group is oftentimes set-up as a consulting company) or a clinical integration model.
Clinical Integration Model
Most of these models are utilized for the Physicians to help hospitals develop quality metrics. Oftentimes, there will be payments for Medical Directorships payments bundled into these management models.
